It is three thirty and I’m starting to break my fast. I did two meditations:

Then I selected my twenty course meal. It consists of:

  1. five almonds
  2. a couple of Iranian pistachios
  3. a few pieces of walnuts
  4. a piece of ginger
  5. sea weed
  6. red cabbage
  7. green cabbage
  8. red onion
  9. white onion
  10. yogurt
  11. feta cheese
  12. tiny slice of red delicious apple
  13. tiny slice of golden delicious apple
  14. tiny slice of granny Smith apple
  15. pieces of walnut
  16. sunflower seeds
  17. pumpkin seeds
  18. dried apricot
  19. a prune
  20. avocado slice
  21. A slice of jalapeno pepper
  22. a slice of orange

I then went for a short walking meditation. Thanking God and the whole universe for providing me all this yummy wonderful nourishing food.

Now, I’m spending some quality time with the food. Smelling, looking at, feeling each one while being thankful.

As I write this I suddenly remember that two billion people on earth go to bed hungry every night. I don’t write this to feel bad but to be more thankful and appreciative for the bounty that we have.

I’ll let you know about how I experienced the food afterward.

It is now in the middle of the meal. I took some time off to write my observation. I decided to start with the Iranian pistachio lovingly brought to Los Angeles by my sister from my native country.

I looked at it in the shell. Smelled the wonderful aroma. Held it in my hand. Played with it. Then I took the shell away from the nut itself. Again I felt it and observed it as I smelled the pistachio from Iran even more. Eventually I took a tiny bite and rolled it under my tong, feeling the texture and the crunch. It tasted exquisite.

Slowly, one by one I would take a tiny bite. Normally I eat very fast and unaware of the food. This is a bad habit I picked up when I went to a English boarding school. But now I was eating a single sunflower seed. As I was chewing it I remembered driving in South of France where they had huge fields of sunflowers. All the flowers would rotate so they would be facing the sun. So you would see a sea of sunflowers following the sun.

I kept thanking the people who discovered each food I ate. I thanked the people who grew them, The ones who packed the foods. The truck drivers, truck builders, Henry Ford, Mr. Daimler, and Mr. Diesel were all thanked. As I mentioned when you wish to thank all involved soon you thank the whole universe…

I had imagined the taste of the onions and the jalapeno would be way too strong but they were perfect.  Maybe that’s what a clean detoxified pallet does.

It is now four thirty and I’ll go back to the second half of my royal meal fit for a king’s feast…
