Cutting you nose to spite your face
Posted Under: Success, ease of life, forgiveness, peaceful life
A question which is always important to ask is, “Do you want to be happy or do you want to be right?” This is similar to the idea of cutting you nose to spite your face.
I recently got another hosting company to host some other blogs. Something went wrong and it was down for a relatively long while and when it came back up three of the blogs associated with it had disappeared (the data was still there though). It took me a whole day to bring those three up on another hosting service. However, there were four more working blogs with that host.
Originally I had wanted to just drop that hosting company since it was within the first thirty days and I could have got a full refund. I thought about it and it made no sense to do that as it would have cost me another day’s worth of work. So I decided to let the issue go and in fact put another two blogs on that host.
I decided that forgiving them was not only the correct spiritual and psychological thing to do but the correct commercial thing. Unfortunately too often we act out of principle and damage ourselves more than anyone else.
When I was young (and stupid) I made it my business to teach people how to drive correctly (lane observance and so on but not speeding which I always did myself). This got me into trouble a few times including a minor accident when I was trying to teach someone not to be in the fast lane driving slowly (lane speeds are very important in England and Europe where I grew up).
Now, I am a bit wiser and have learned that It’s much better to be happy than to be right. Now, I mind my own business and get out of people’s way. I still need to control myself when people say stupid things (often happens especially about politics and religion). Hopefully I’ll become a little wiser and learn to keep my mouth shut with people who would never listen anyway.
