Eat peacefully

In order to manage your weight it is best to pay attention to your eating. This is called mindful eating and improves the health of your mind/body/soul/spirit.
When you are eating mindfully a good meal starts with a moment of thankfulness. If you are religious you can say a prayer of thanks. If you are not you may wish to thank all the people and forces involved in bringing you the food. Thus you can thank the sun, earth, the food itself (it used to be living and is giving you its life’s essence), the farmers, the transporters, the shop workers and all others involved. In fact when you do this totally you realize the unity of the universe and that everyone is somehow involved in bringing you this meal. I’ll write about this thankful meditation later on.
Then eat slowly, mindfully in a relaxed loving atmosphere. It is best to have a special place to eat when you can appreciate the food and the companionship. If you are with others take time to talk and slow down your eating.
To reduce your weight or even increase it if that’s what you need: eat small bites; chew each morsel well. This allows you to appreciate the food while allowing your saliva to start the digesting of the food. Remember that it takes approximately twenty minutes for your brain to become aware of the fact that you are satisfied. Eating slowly stops you from over eating.
Eating with gratitude allows you to digest the food better and is good for your soul. More on thankfulness later.
Talking and listening to companions allows you to enjoy the food more and eat slowly.
