Do you want to be right or happy

I’m going through the workbook of A Course in Miracles. Today is day 19 and the thought for the day is I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts. This gives you the responsibility to change your thoughts by changing your attitude. If you are happy other people will sense it and they will be happy.
At the same time today has been a challenging day on the computer.
I updated a software and forgot to save the database so lost a lot of work.
At the same time a new software I’m testing had some small issues and wasted some time and delays.
So I suppose objectively I could have had a better day.
However, because I’m doing the A course in Miracles workbook and today’s thought is that my thoughts affect all, I kept a good attitude and the computer issues will take some time (they would anyway), but they will not make – actually I will not make matters worse by feeling bad about them.
As I’m writing this I’m thinking that this is a life lesson which applies to everything – by feeling bad about “negative events” we only make their effect worse.
We are late for a meeting. The traffic is bad and we get angry or nervous or something – it does not make the traffic any better. We take our negative attitude to the meeting. Now the person we meet picks up our bad vibs and it goes on and on.
So next time something negative happens (and it will happen – as the Buddha said “life is suffering”) ask yorself if you want to be right (righteous and mad) or do you want to be happy.
The way to be happy is to have a Zen attitude of acceptance.
As the serenity prayer says:
Lord let me change what is changeable,
Accept what is not,
And know the difference.
