One hundred percent of nothing

Many years ago I owned a cassette duplication company and made demo tapes for musicians and duplicated tapes for hypnotherapists among others. In fact that’s on of the reason’s I ended studying hypnotherapy and getting my doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy.

At this time I ended up getting to know a few people in and in the periphery of the music industry. One of these had been a gofer for a music producer and had written a song which needed a lot of work.

The music producer and a top disco band leader (you can see how many years ago it was as disco was hot at the time) wanted to help this guy so they offered to rewrite this guy’s mediocre song and have it on the band’s next album and give him twenty five percent of the song’s royalties.

At this time the band’s LPs (vinyl – the real thing) were selling at least a million copies. This would have meant the original writer would have received at least $25,000 (in 1978 dollars).

Alas, this guy was greedy. He complained about it being his song and his work. So he got his wish. His song was never recorded by anyone – it just wasn’t good enough and his friends (the producer and band leader) were only trying to help him out of charity.

So he got one hundred percent of nothing!
