Problem or challenge
The words that you use make a large difference to your attitude toward the same objective event. Call it a pain and it hurts a lot – call it a discomfort and it is less painful.
It is the same with problems or challenges. If you call it a problem it is large and unwieldy – if it is called a challenge that’s exactly what it is.
In fact my philosophy has always been of looking at the challenge within any so called problem. This was specially true when I used to be a software engineer. My motto was:
See’s no problems, only challenges…
It was true and got me a few jobs. And that attitude allowed me to do well at those jobs. It is only a slight change in the words – problem or challenge – difficulty or fun?
Which shall it be?
It is your choice – how do you see it?
A problem: an intricate unsettled question; a source of perplexity, distress, or vexation; difficulty in understanding or accepting…
Or
A challenge: to arouse or stimulate especially by presenting with difficulties.
Which one looks better – to be distressed or vexed or to be aroused and stimulated.
Now, it is important to generalize this to most of the words you use. Select positive words for the same event. See the glass half full rather than half empty.
So is it a failure or success in discovering ways that don’t work – a la Edison and the light bulb.
Is it failing or taking safe risks so you can increase the numbers of your successes – a la Babe Ruth who had more strike outs than any other batter and yet who remembers that.
Please leave comments on more words which may be changed from a negative to a positive.

OK, I remembered something interesting:
When you are confused, you are learning new things. So next time you are confused be happy since you are learning something new.
