Reframe it

Would a beautiful painting be seen as well if it was in an ugly frame? And would a not so good painting look good in a great frame?
That is the principle we use in psychology by reframing events and situations. For example there are some men cutting the threes from one of the neighboring houses. They are using a very loud chain saw and have been at it for more than two and a half hours and they started at 7:30 a.m. which is a tad to early to wake up every one on a Saturday morning.
I had the choice of letting the noise get me down (or in reality to annoy myself because of the noise for all annoyance comes from within) or I could reframe it. I thought of those episodes of the Twilight Zone where someone would end up as the last human being and how horrifying that would be and I let the sound of the chain saw remind me how lucky I am to live in a world with other human beings.
I changed the frame around the situation and it lessened the negative effects. Reframing can work in the opposite direction too the other night we drank cheap wine in our best crystal wine glasses (the right type for the color of the wine) and the wine tasted much better than when we drink it in our daily cheap wine glasses.
In fact one way to manage your weight is to use your best china set and cutlery. Also, smaller plates allow you to feel more satisfied and full with smaller portions.
Altogether many types of reframing are like looking for that silver lining in each cloud. I’ll write about other types of reframing in other posts.
