Have a speed fast

This fast only counts if you drive more than ten miles on surface roads or thirty on highways.

I really don’t know if I can do this one. Go bellow the posted speed limit for the next 24 hours. I wonder if this is possible. I am going to make a slight exception. Since the speedos are not totally accurate you are allowed a ten percent leeway on surface streets (it is almost impossible to go at 30 M.P.H. in my sport car.

This is the difficult fast for me. I thought not getting any news was going to difficult but it actually cured from wasting time. As I have written many times some of these “fasts” will be easy and others hard. It is the hard ones which do each of us the most good.

It is now near the end of the day and in reality it is the end of the fast for me. I went through it without speeding. I had to very careful and make sure I used the cruise control whenever on the freeway. I discovered this yesterday when I prepared for this fast. I realized that it was impossible to drive on the freeway with my car with manual control of speed and not to go over the speed limit. The point is that it is good often to rehearse any task and prepare so you are ready for all consequences.

Anyway the interesting thins was that it really did not take me much longer to go from one place to another. On surface streets I typically did not have as much to wait at the red lights. I noticed people who overtook me as I drove at the speed limit were waiting for me at the next red light. A few who drove like maniacs may have eventually got through one green light where I waited at the red but basically the drive was much calmer.

In the freeway it just felt so great not to be worried about the highway patrol. And even though I was one of slowest cars on the freeway there were time when I did actually overtake a car or two.

When I refuel my car I’ll let you know how much gas I saved. I know that will be surprised at the increase in fuel efficiency when one goes a little slower.

I wrote the above post about two years ago. Since then I got two driving tickets within eighteen months and now drive quite slowly (for Southern Californian freeways). I have noticed that dropping my normal speed from around 80 mp.h. to around 75 and accelerating slower has improved my gas mileage by about 20%. Also I feel so much calmer when I drive. I’m still worried about getting a speeding ticket but know that I’m pretty safe.

I also noticed “speed – fast.”  I had not noticed the contrasting words like jumbo shrimp or military intelligence’
