Take some time off
Last Monday (a week ago) I received an email from our hosting company that we had more than 450,000 files on the server and we were only allowed to have a miximum of 50,000.
I first started deleting some excess duplicate files and quickly realized that this was not going to reduce the files to less than 400,000 at best. So I had to devise other techniques and the first attempt would reduce the files to less than 250,000, but that would still be way too much.
I reprogrammed some underlying code so I would lower number of duplicated files and phoned the hosting company this morning and there are still about 140,000 files. I did not know what to do so I went for along walk and left the project for a while.
Sometimes you are way too near a challenge to notice the big picture and need to think about something totally different in order to allow the unconscious mind to find some form of a solution.
I still do not have the absolute answer to my challenge, but at least by taking time off and relaxing I have a few clues.
One of the things I’m doing is to find out where I’m at this moment.
It seems there are some files somewhere else on the server that I don’t know where they are. So that in itself has been a great clue.
So remember there are times when doing less will produce more results. There are times you need to do something other than the project you are working on to allow your mind to work without bother by the obsessive conscious mind (this is also called the monkey mind when you think too much).
A great way to take time off from any project is to “sleep on it.” Before going to sleep you can ask your unconscious mind to solve the problem for you and then forget about it…
