Time and stress management

Time is moving faster and faster. We all multitask most of the time in the modern tech dependent world. This unnatural way of living makes us more and more stressed.

How did we live before mobile phones, video games, music machines, and so on?

Our whole conception of time has changed. Before the industrial revolution a person would say I’ll see you under the oak tree. The other person would know that the time may be anywhere between next say Thursday and the Wednesday after.

With Industrial revolution came the need for the workers to be in the factory at the same time.

The production line made industrial workers in control of the line. This is satirized in Charley Chaplin’s “Modern Times,” and Lucile Ball in the chocolate factory episode.

The advent of electronics and ubiquity of computers has meant that our concept of time has changed even more. Andy Warhol was wrong – in the present everyone gets fifteen nanoseconds of fame…

All public communication is based on sound bites. We have become extremely lazy thinkers and people believe simplistic slogans…

So what to do to compensate for the rapidity of modern life?

Take some time off for yourself each day – stop multitasking at this time and concentrate on one thing and one thing only – if you are eating just eat – if watching TV just watch – never watch TV and eat – actually that’s one way to gain weight.

Much better yet meditate during this quite time and reduce your stress even more. Here are some forms of meditation I have written about so far:

So slow down, stop multitasking and reduce stress.
