Unconditional love
True love is totally unconditional. It is the love of the mother (I don’t mean necessarily your physical mother or father – but in some spiritual systems there are masculine and feminine aspects of the divine). The love of this divine mother is absolute and non-judgmental.
It is the love which says, "Go and sin no more! "
And remember in the original Greek of the new testament the word translated into sin was an archery term meaning missing the mark. Unconditional love notices that you may miss the mark but that’s all. This uneversal feminine loves no mater what.
The father’s love (again the symbolic father) is dependent. You do something good you are praised, you do something wrong you are blamed or worse still you are punished.
It is this half hearted love that my compatriot Omar Khayam wrote about when he wrote:
Creator, for being good you promis heaven and the houries….
Enough of theology and spiruality. Going to plain down to earth psychology, unconditional love produces much more result than punishment. Modern animal behavior modification experts (like trainers in zoos and circuses) now know that the carrot and stick does not work as well as the carot alone.
It is best to ignore the failures and praise the successes. It is best to love unconditionally or as the modern English bard Sting says, "If you love somebody set them free…."
The I Ching (the Chinese classic of changes) says about this if your horse runs away it will return on its own after seven days (implying that if it does not come back, it was never yours to begin with)….
My final thought about unconditional love is that true love is the one thing that the more you give the more you have and remember love is forgiving also means
love is for giving!
