Use the city
Posted Under: Success, ease of life, positive emotions
If you, like me, live in a big city, use the great facilities big city’s have.
Cities have lots of negative aspects. There is bad traffic, polluted air, crime, lack of friendship with people and other negative things. However, big cities have many advantages. They have much more facilities for arts and entertainment.
Last night we went to the Los Angeles Disney hall for the last appearance of Esa-Pekka Salonen as the Los Angeles Philharmonic music director. I remember when Esa-Pekka started this position in 1992. He was a very young man then and is still a young man at the age of fifty.
The program was Oedipus Rex and Symphony of Palms by Stravinsky. It was fantastic. We had a great time.
Now, I’m not suggesting, you like me, should love and appreciate classical music. What I do suggest is that you can find so much different entertainment, arts, culture, sports, parks and so on in big cities. Discover what you like and use the city.
For example here in Los Angeles we have two baseball, and two basketball teams but at this time no American Football (I grew up in England and football to me is what is called soccer here in the USA) team. I’m not into American spectator sports but you maybe.
In big cities there are museums, theaters, rock concerts, world class restaurants, universities and colleges which have programs open to the public including some free programs. There are parades of all kinds (we have Roses parade here as well as many others).
Many big cities are on seas, oceans, lakes, or have rivers. Go by the water. You will feel better. According to many energy systems, large bodies of water produce good energy like Chi, Prana, negative ions or whatever. So if you have a body of water in your city go for a walk by it.
I love the anonymity of big cities. The other day we were at the Los Angeles County Museum of art and a very famous Oscar winning actor was talking to someone on his cell phone and no one was bothering him. When I lived in London in the sixties, all the world would be in Kings Street Chelsea every Saturday and yet people would mind their own business.
So please if you have to suffer the negatives of the big city, use the positives as well.
