What is failure?
I’ll not answer this question till tomorrow. For now I suggest you ask yourself, "What is failure?"
What would have to happen for you to decide that you have failed in a task?
What would have to happen for you to decide that you have failed in a relationship?
What would have to happen for you to decide that you have failed in your life?
When would you know that you have failed?
When would you know someone else has failed?
Imagine you did a task and someone else got the same task how would you define failure in those cases?
Now, suppose the task was excelling at a sport that you enjoy and the other was an expert in that field (suppose you love basketball and other is Kobe Bryant) then what would be a failure for you in basketball and what for Kobe.
Now, change roles. What is your field of expertise? Suppose you are an accountant and are great at balancing books, then how would you and Kobe compare in that field?
Play other thought experiments on the field of failure. Think about the times you have failed. Did you ever go for a job interview and did not get the job? What happened next? And then what? How did that not getting the job look to you from the point of view of many years later?
Please spend a few minutes thinking about different aspects of failure. Ideally write down a page of what you think about failure and the times that you have failed.
