Worry not
I wrote worry not rather than don’t worry because the unconscious mind cannot tell the difference between a positive and a negative. There are many times that things come up which produce fear for the future. This puts us into the fight or flight syndrome or gets us in the “deer in the headlights” paralyzed mode.
Now unless we are escaping from a saber tooth tiger or hunting a wooly mamoth (with a huge group of friends) non of the above are very useful. We can go for a walk or go the gym and burn off the excess energy and fatty acids in our blood caused by the fight or flight and then we can take appropriate action.
Often, instead we just obssess and “awfulize” thinking about the worst possible outcome at a time when there is absolutely nothing we can do to solve the issue. This just put our brain in a vicious feedback loop which makes us worry more and more.
At this time it is best to remember the serenity prayer (slight alteration to make it time based): “Lord let me change what I can at this time and accept whatever I cannot change at this time and to understand the difference.”
My time alteration does admit that there are often times that we cannot not do anything about an issue at this time but perhaps in a future date we have the appropriate resources to change the situation. So understand when to take action and when to meditate, calm down, do something different, worry not and wait.
After all this too shall change….
