Yummy

I recently wrote that it’s your mother’s fault. I did not mean that literally but meant it as a part of the human condition.

We are born less developed than any other mammal because of our huge brains (our heads have to be small enough to pass through the birth canal). So we are more vulnerable and our parents have to stop us from killing ourselves by telling us, “No,” and hence teaching us shame.

Now let me praise your mom for teaching you the magic word, “Yummy!”

Just try it. Eat something and as you bite into the food hum a hum of appreciation and say allowed or silently if in public, “Yummy.”

I guarantee you the food will taste much better.

Whatever you appreciate, appreciates in value. When you say thank God, the Spirit, Nature, or whatever you call that source of everything, you get in tune with your true self. Your attitude improves and you enjoy life much more.

This importance of appreciation applies to everything. I love my two little cars. One is a 1994 Honda Del Sole and has done more than 200,000 miles. Each time I see it I thank God and send loving kindness to the kind folk who contributed to it being mine (that’s to say every human being who has ever lived).

Think about it (if it is not obvious spend some time in thought about it) in some way other we are all joined together and we all have contributed to everything that exists on earth.

Anyway, the real point is that when you appreciate your food by being present to it and saying, “Yum, yum, yum,” it ends up tasting so much better.
