Effective Solutions for Life's Challenges

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

  • Do you blank out during exams?
  • Feel excessive anxiety over test-taking?
  • Have test results that do not demonstrate what you know?
  • Need to pass a licensing test, or comprehensive exams?

Excessive anxiety limits performance which can lead to failure and set back your career. Learning to manage your anxiety about exams enables you to focus on your knowledge, and to better reflect what you know. Effective help is available. EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a rapid and effective method that uses eye movements to stimulate the brain information processing system. Extensive research supports the efficacy of EMDR.

EMDR is a powerful and innovative clinical tool which has helped over a million people deal with life-shaking events. Research studies show that persons impacted by sexual abuse, crimes of violence, war trauma, and natural catastrophes, are among those who gain control and confidence through EMDR. Persons with fears associated with events of daily living, such as exam anxiety, public speaking, and phobias, improve functioning through EMDR..

Dr. Francine Shapiro developed EMDR in 1987. She is a licensed psychologist and a senior research fellow at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto. In 1994 she received the Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award presented by the California Psychological Association. Elaine Kindle, Ph.D., MA, LCSW, BCD, is a therapist trained through the EMDR Institute, Inc. created by Dr. Shapiro.

Dr. Kindle holds a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC).
